Winner of Adaptation at Scale Prize (Protsahan Puraskar): Reward on Innovative Climate Change Adaptation in Nepal.

NDRC has been awarded with “Adaptation at Scale Prize” Protsahan Puraskar for implementing and planning to scale up innovative efforts in the field of climate change adaptation. The Prize has been rewarded for innovative solutions to scale-up climate change adaptation in Nepal from the “Ideas to Impact” program funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and managed by IMC Worldwide.

The award-winning scale-up plan was for one of NDRC’s completed projects “Strengthening the Local Capacity for Reducing the Disaster Risks and Impact of Climate Change in Banganga River Basin”. The completion of the project had resulted in benefiting 28 communities dwelling in the Banganga River Basin of Kapilbastu and Arghakhanchi. The project had undertaken several training workshops, awareness raising campaigns, disaster drills, and installation of disaster risk reduction equipment.

Majority of the project’s activities were undertaken with the voluntary participation of the local people. Local resources were optimally utilized. Even financial support was tremendous from the local communities we penetrated. To be precise, the fund generated from the locals was more than three folds greater than the project’s contribution. The project had covered the upstream as well as downstream communities of the Banganga River Basin which ensured the success of the actions taken even further. Such innovative features of the project were the reason it was much applauded by the stakeholders and generated outstanding results.

And the scale-up plan of this project has now been awarded “Protsahan Puraskar”. The prize money amounts to 10000 Pounds. According to the team leader of the Prize Program Purushottam Man Pradhan, the prize is intended to contribute to building and strengthening local Climate Change adaptation innovation capabilities. So NDRC has full-fledged plan rolled out for the optimum utilization of the prize money to reach the greater number of communities covering a larger number of beneficiaries with the future project.
